Explore Cala Moraig Kayak Routes to Cueva de los Arcos, and Hidden Coves
Anyone who has been to Cala Moraig, in Benitachell, knows it’s not just a pretty cove. It’s a starting point. A direct gateway to the wild Mediterranean, where the cliffs of the Cumbre del Sol plunge into the sea and hide some of the most curious formations on the Alicante coast.
What not everyone knows is that Cala Moraig completely transforms when seen from the water. By kayak or paddleboard, the scenery changes: this postcard-perfect cove becomes a route filled with nooks, sea caves, rock arches, and small coves that can only be reached by paddling.
What can you see from Cala Moraig?
From Cala Moraig, you can take one of the most spectacular routes in the area. Just a few minutes of paddling takes you to places you didn’t even know existed.
One of them — the most famous — is the Cueva de los Arcos. It’s right at the start, next to the beach itself, and is probably the most photographed spot in the area. Water flows in and out through the arches, and sometimes, if you look closely, you’ll see fresh water bubbling up from the bottom — it comes straight from the Puig de la Llorença aquifer..
A little further south along the coast is the Cueva de los Peces. You can’t miss it. Its entrance is narrower, almost hidden, but inside the water turns crystal clear. If you stay still and quiet, you’ll see dozens of fish swimming around. There’s not much space inside, but it’s perfect for a quick stop before continuing.
And if you’re up for paddling a bit further north, in the opposite direction, you’ll reach a true hidden gem: Cala dels Testos. It’s tricky to get to on foot (the path is steep), but very easy by kayak or SUP. It’s usually quieter than Moraig, and if you’ve packed some food, it’s a perfect place to take a long break and relax with a swim.
How to Get to Cala Moraig: Location, Access & Parking
It’s located on the Benitachell coast, between Moraira and Jávea. Access is through the Cumbre del Sol residential area. In summer, traffic is regulated, so you’ll need to park at the top and walk down or take a small shuttle service.
The road down is paved and a bit steep, but it’s worth it. At the bottom, a white gravel beach and turquoise waters await.
